Galbally 2-7 Pomeroy 0-8

Nine scores to eight.  The importance of a goal or two in a game was never better illustrated than in Killyclogher on Sunday afternoon.  Pomeroy will look back on this one with deep frustration.  For 25 minutes of the opening half they kept Galbally off the scoreboard and yet they went into the break a point down.  They had a glorious chance for a goal in the 24th minute but Hugh McNamee’s shot slammed off the crossbar.   Eight wides and a very disputable goal line clearance didn’t help their cause either.  Photos after appear to show that the ball may have crossed the line.

Pomeroy opened the scoring in the 10th minute through a Frank Burns free kick.  Two minutes later Kieran McGeary landed another from a dead ball and by the 20th minute they were 0-3 to 0-0 ahead thanks to a point from play via Ryan Begley.  Galbally’s opening score came in the 25th minute from Sean Murphy.  Galbally sub Barry Carberry had Galbally ahead within a minute of his interaction, rounding the goalkeeper and finding the Pomeroy net.  A Conor Donaghy point from play eased Galbally into a two point lead at the short whistle.  Half Time – Galbally 1-2 Pomeroy 0-3

That two point lead was three thanks to a Conor Donaghy free in the 36th minute.  The next eight scores were hit one after the other at each an of the field.  Frank Burns reduced the lead to two in the 37th minute only to see that score wiped out by another Donaghy free in the 40th.  A brilliant Hugh McNamee point in the 41st minute was replied to with a killer blow as Ronan Nugent turned the ball to the net for Galbally.  A 49th minute free from Burns offered Pomeroy some hope but that score was wiped with a Daniel Kerr mark in the 52nd minute.

Eight minutes from time Pomeroy clipped over another point through Kieran McGeary but Galbally were having none of it and replied with two points of their own from Barry Carberry and Daniel Kerr.  The last point of the afternoon came from Pomeroy sub Aidan Woods.  Final Score – Galbally 2-7 Pomeroy 0-8.
