SHE’S ACE COUNTY FINALS

Saturday 15th began the Juvenile Girls’ County Championship Finals
There were some brilliant displays throughout the day and a promising future for Tyrone handball was evident.

There are still two remaining games still to be played which are;
U11 Final Kayleigh McCoole v Minnie McCallan
U15 Final Bronagh Farley v Aoife Kerr

The games commenced at 10am in Breacach with U13As. Greencastle’s Niamh Conway proved too strong for Pomeroy’s Laura Delaney. Both girls performed well, but the Greencastle girl came out on top after two games.

Aoife Sheridan and Kathleen McCaughey were flying the flag for Breacach in the U12Bs. Both Aoife and Kathleen fought hard with some great returns and serves. The two games were extremely close with 15-11 in each. Kathleen claimed her first County Title over clubmate Aoife on this occasion.

Keeva Owens from Breacach and Lucy Mc Cullagh from Loughmacrory both played their hearts out in the U12A Final. The skill and ability of these two girls was outstanding and an absolute pleasure to watch.
The first game went to Keeva 15-7. Not to be deterred Lucy fought hard and beat Keeva in the second 15-10. The tie breaker could have gone either way but Keeva edged on and claimed her hard earned title 15-7.

Greencastle’s Grace Teague and Emma Conway contested the U10As. These girls facing each other in finals is a regular occurrence. Grace recently defeated her clubmate in the league final, but it was to be Emma’s turn this time. Emma claimed her County Title winning both games 15-10, 15-5.

Killyclogher’s Amy Corcoran won her first competition defeating Mia Coyle from Greencastle in the U10Bs. Both Amy and Mia showed great determination with Amy taking the honours 15-2,15-8.

The U13Bs was dominated by Loughmacrory girls. Cara Fox came up against clubmate Cliodhna Toner. It wasn’t to be for Cliodhna this time as Cara’s serve was too much for her.

U14 was was one of the most exciting games of the day. Greencastle’s Caislin Tracy absolutely stormed through her first game against Laura Duff from Loughmacrory winning 15-1. Caitlin also started out well in the second with a 14-8 lead over Laura. Laura dug deep and changed her serve and she took the second game 15-14.
In the third game Laura took the lead. Caislin was trailing 6-9 and pulled it back to 9-9. After a long and exciting game Laura Duff was crowned the U14 County Champion.

Pomeroy Ladies Aimee Begley and Grace Woodward contested the U14B Final. The girls played well and are two evenly matched players. Aimee’s serve gave her the edge on her clubmate Grace making her the U14B County Champion in the third game.

The final game of the day was the U17s. Dervla Farley from Breacach took the first 15-8. Ellie Jane Quinn from Pomeroy took the second 15-13.
The games between these two went on for over an hour. Dervla and Ellie Jane have previously partnered each other to become Ulster Champions, and neither was giving up without a fight. The girls fought it out to the bitter end, both giving it their all but the outcome was in favour of Pomeroy, making Ellie Jane the U17 County Champion.

A massive well done to everyone who competed. It’s great to see so many young girls with such an interest in Handball and the talent to go with it.
Thanks to Breacach for hosting in their superb facilities and to everyone who refereed and helped out in any way.
