Louth v Tyrone

After a tough home opener against Cavan, Tyrone were looking forward to the chance of cutting loose against Louth. As with last week, there were some of the panel unavailable but the changes to this week’s team selection impacted only in a positive manner.
Tyrone opened up enjoying lots of possession and creating numerous chances but their nervy play saw the opportunities missed. It took a few minutes to come but a Roisin McErlean free settled the team. Sally McCann followed up with a pointed effort before hitting the back of the net from McErlean’s long range strike. Rebecca Barker and Kelley Cuddy added to the scores while strong defensive work ensured Louth had few opportunities for scores.

The first water break gave Louth a breather and although Tyrone continued to dominate in terms of possession and scoring opportunities, Louth eventually broke their duck. Good passing from Aoife McDonald, strong running from Casey Gallagher, determination from Ciara McGready and an incredible puck out catch by Niamh McNulty were all features of the next period with Tyrone ending the half with a score of 3-15.

Tyrone faced the elements after the break and unsurprisingly the scoring rate slowed. The wind presented a different challenge to this Tyrone side and Nicola McKiver, Leanne McDonald and Aisling Jordan all made significant contributions to their team’s performance. Louth were rewarded with a goal from Anne McCormick but found Tyrone fully focused with Grainne Rafferty and substitute Cara Little teaming up well. Louth continued to push forward and their determination was rewarded with a goal with the last ball of the game.
