Handball Ireland Announce Plans For World Championship.

In consequence to a meeting of the Ard Comairle of GAA Handball Ireland, it has been decided to make the following announcement in respect of the hosting of the 2012 World Handball Championships in Ireland.
Following in-depth research and consultation it has been decided by GAA Handball Ireland Central Council, in conjunction with the GAA, that the 2012 World Handball Championships (both One-Wall and 40×20 Four-Wall events) will be staged in Dublin, at one large Central Arena from 11th to 21st October 2012.
This will see the entire World Championships staged in a purpose built arena which will cater for in excess of 2,000 competitors from 33 countries and will allow for major Television Coverage, marketing and sponsorship for what promises to be one of the most special International Handball Events ever.
The project will see a large number of 40×20 Handball Courts constructed to host the Four Wall Championships and this will be how the World Championship Event will commence on Thursday 11th October 2012 and will culminate with Live TV Coverage of the Ladies’& Men’s World Senior Singles Championship Finals on Wednesday evening 17th October 2012.
The World One-Wall Championships will commence with preliminary rounds on Tuesday 16th October 2012 with the climax being the World Open Senior Singles Finals on Saturday evening 20th October 2012. There will also be a host of major social events and high profile entertainment throughout the period of the championships at the same venue with a large Gala Banquet to take place on Saturday 20th October 2012. The eagerly awaited event will eventually climax with a host of special Irish Handball (including 60×30 and hardball) & Gaelic Games Exhibitions on Sunday 21st October 2012.
The World Handball Championship Arena will be on a major campus alongside 800 hotel bedrooms (plus a number of adjoining hotels), leisure facilities, restaurants and bars, golf course, shops and with easy commute to the Dublin City Centre, while there will be full-time shuttle buses in operation to and from Dublin Airport to cater for all travelling International parties.
The new announcement is sure to come as a very exciting one to handball players the world over and a more comprehensive plan, to include details and pictures of the actual venue plus all forthcoming plans for the World Championship Executive Committee in Ireland will follow by Monday 3rd October 2012.
In order to provide the opportunity for players, both in Ireland and Internationally to begin making their arrangements for the dates this initial announcement is thus being made today.
