Hurlers set for noon throw in

A feast of hurling final action awaits in Croke Park on Saturday week 4th June and, the Tyrone Senior hurlers will be there.

The Red Hands will face Ulster rivals Donegal in the Lory Meagher Cup Final with the game providing an excellent aperitif to the main courses in the Nicky Rackard and Christy Ring Cup deciders.

Tyrone’s game will start at 12 noon with Meath referee Fergus Smith taking charge in a game that will see two near neighbours battle for National honours for the second time in three years. They contested the inaugural Lory Meagher Cup Final two years ago, when a sterling second half recovery culminating in goals from Rory O’Neill, Shea McKiver and Justin Kelly saw Tyrone captain Stephen Donnelly lifting the silverware.

Both teams have produced some impressive form to reach this years final with Donegal overcoming South Down following an extra time semi final thriller last weekend. The North Westerners advancing on a 1-15 to 1-12 score line, while two goals from Rory O’Neill allowed Tyrone to progress, at the expense of Warwickshire last Saturday afternoon. Tyrone winning the game on a 2-15 to 2-10 score line to set up an appetising All Ulster derby decider. Donegal having reached the Lory Meagher Cup Final for the third successive year will be eager to go one step better, but Tyrone have already tasted glory in 2011. The Division Four NHL League champions will be up against it, but their recent display against Derry in the Ulster Championship suggests that they are in with an excellent chance of landing another All-Ireland hurling title
