Holy Trinity College claimed the Ennis Cup on Friday afternoon following a 3-8 to 3-4 win over a gallant and formidable St Columba’s Stranorlar at Garvaghey. The Donegal lads opened up an early lead and were 1-2 to no score in front after fourteen minutes with scores from Matthew Rea and Shea Mc Nulty. Holy Trinity missed numerous early chances but eventually got on the scoreboard just before halftime with three points in a row from Ciaran Mc Keown (2) and team captain Jack Muldoon.

Those scores put the Cookstown lads in touch at the break and although Stranorlar opened the scoring in the second half it was HTC that produced the match winning form. The outstanding Sean Mc Nally hit the net to tie the game before Fionn Daly and Mc Keown added further goals to put HTC 3-4 to 1-3 ahead.

St Columba’s dug deep and asked questions of the HTC defence but the entire team fought for every ball with goalkeeper Mathew Mc Elhatton particularly superb making several fantastic saves and interceptions. The Donegal lads did manage to reduce the gap to four points following goals from James Rea and Liam Patton but HTC showed commendable character as they held on for the win.
