It finished all square in a hugely entertaining grade two minor championship final between Clonoe and Moy at Killeeshil on Saturday afternoon. Moy had looked the likely winners for long spells until a penalty from Clonoe put them in front but with the last kick of the game Shane Mackle held his nerve with a sweetly struck 45 as it finished 0-12 to 2-6.

Despite playing against the wind in the first half Moy were the better side early on as they established a 0-6 to 0-1 lead with Jamie Coleman and Mackle getting all their scores between them. Wing half back Matthew Duffy then hit a fine point for the O’Rahillys before it was game on when Daniel O’Neill grabbed a goal to reduce the deficit to the minimum at the break.

Points from Coleman and Mackle edged Moy three clear on the restart but Clonoe rallied with three superb efforts with the outside of the boot from team Captain Ciaran Magee, two of which were frees. Defender Mark Hagan put Moy back in front but with time running out Magee converted a penalty at the second attempt after his first effort had hit the bar. A Coleman free reduced the deficit to the minimum before that superb conversion from Mackle saw it end in stalemate.
