While many GAA followers and players are looking forward to a few parties and family get togethers over the Christmas period, quite a few others will be looking forward to testing themselves physically and mentally at the annual Greencastle 5 mile run on Wednesday 26th. The event is now in its 27th year and has been staged every year in spite of what has been on occasions very trying weather conditions. The numbers continue to grow and while it attracts many of Ireland’s top male and female athletes it also features large numbers of club and county players both past and present. The run itself will begin at 1:00 pm while the walkers are expected to get underway at 11:00 am. It is still possible to register online or if you want you can turn up on the day and participate. What better way to get rid of the excesses of Christmas Day than to put on the running/walking shoes and head out to Greencastle. One thing for sure is you will be guaranteed a warm welcome from Oliver Mc Cullagh and his band of hardworking volunteers as they busy themselves to get everything right for all those who compete whether at the highest level or if you are just out for a relaxing walk in the Greencastle air.
