Tyrone Hurlers Top Table
Monday 16.03.2015
Pride of place goes to the Tyrone hurlers this weekend as they continued their fine league form with an impressive win over Louth at Healy Park on Sunday.
Mattie Lennon’s side looked to be coasting early on as they dominated the play and led 0-5 to no score after eleven minutes in spite of playing into a strong breeze. Damien Casey (0-2), Justin Kelly, Gerard Gilmore and Conor Grogan with the Red Hands opening scores.
However “The Wee County” showed considerable resolve and spurred on by a Gavin Kane goal midway through the first half they reduced the gap to a single point by the break.
Louth began the second half on fire hitting a goal inside the opening fifteen seconds followed almost immediately by a point from Roger Maher. Tyrone found themselves trailing by three with the second half barely under way.
There was no sign of panic for the Red Hands however as Damien Casey, who finished with 0-11, Conor Grogan, Justin and Aidan Kelly and Shea Mc Kiver set about reducing the deficit. Mike O’Gorman and Dermot Begley were hugely impressive at the back as Tyrone made full use of the elements to comfortably defeat Louth 1-20 to 2-7. Sean Og Grogan finished to the net for the winners with three minutes of the game left.
This win puts Tyrone clear at the top of the table but they know they face a difficult challenge to remain there when they tackle Roscommon in their final league game.
