ULSTER SCHOOLS UNDER 20 A SEMI-FINAL

Our Lady’s Castleblaney 8-13

Loreto Omagh 1-13

The loss of five key players for Wednesday’s semi-final at Clones proved costly for Loreto as Blaney rattled in eight goals to set up a mouth watering final next week against St Ciaran’s Ballygawley with Coalisland muted as a possible final venue.

Despite losing those players to netball the Omagh school was very much in this contest until just after the break but after Erin Hamill fired in three goals the Monaghan side turned up the heat with a clinical and fast pasced attack leaving the Convent under pressure throughout.

Our Lady’s Castleblaney enjoyed a more than comfortable win with top forward Hamill bagging 4-2 and Sorcha McCague adding 0-7 as Our Lady’s totally dominated the second half.

The Monaghan outfit started well with an early goal from Hamill followed by a second from Celine Nally. Loreto clawed themselves back through points from Sasha Bryne and Maria O’Hagan to leave only a point between the teams at the break when Bryne  slammed home a goal.

Caitlyn Kelly’s point drew the sides level after the break but “Blaney” cut loose and eased through the gears with the wind at their backs. Jenny Duffy, the impressive Jayne Drury, Saoirse Duffy and a further three goals from Hamill sealed the deal for them.

Aghyaran’s Byrne finished with 1-7 Caitlyn Kelly, Roisin Devlin and Maria O’Hagan added scores but it was always an uphill battle for an understrength Loreto.
