Two interesting and contrasting semi finals took place at Killyclogher today in the Junior and Intermediate Championships. Although it appeared for a long time that Killeeshil had left their shooting boots on the other side of the Ballygawley Roundabout they still had sufficient nous and skill to eclipse the threat posed by a one dimensional Fintona attack. The Junior match was rather one sided as a Gary Reilly inspired Killeeshil team eased their way into the final. Indeed it took a very late goal from full back Sean Connolly to put a bit of gloss on the Fintona scoring return.

The Intermediate game seemed to be heading in the same direction as Kildress built up a five point lead at the break .However they failed to score until deep in injury time of the second half as Loughmacrory made light of being two men down at one stage to force the Wolfe Tones into a real dogfight. With only a point separating the sides Fran Loughran settled Kildress nerves with a fine point in the thirty third minute of the second half to seal the win. Like Killeeshil in the first match Kildress were profligate with their shooting and almost paid the ultimate price.

After the matches Teamtalk caught up with Shane Mallon of Killeeshil and Martin Grimes of Kildress to get their views on their semi final successes. We also spoke to Kildress manager Gavin Devlin on his assessment of his team’s performance. All three videos will be on the website on Monday evening and are well worth seeing.
