Tyrone’s Ulster Minor Champion Conor McElduff recovered from a first game 21-3 disaster to push Irish no 3 Niall O Connor to the very limits before the Kildare lad scraped through to make it into the All Ireland Final   In the first McElduff was outgunned by the powerful play of the Lily White lefthander who killed shot after shot in the left corner. In the second game however McElduff gradually got to grips with O Connor’s style and through sheer guts and determination managed to turn a 14-5 deficit into a 20-18 lead. Four times the Tyrone lad served for victory but each time O Connor survived and in the end scraped through by the narrowest of margins 21-20.

McElduff was very disappointed with the loss but he can take some comfort from the fact that he has made tremendous progress in the past 2 years. As last weekend showed he is now able to hold his own with Ireland’s best and a bright future awaits as long as he is prepared to put in the necessary commitment.
