Ulster Minor Shield Final 2024

Holders Tyrone took on Armagh in the Ulster Minor Shield Final meeting at the weekend with the Orchard County coming through having been previously in the Cup competition.

As expected Armagh got off to a flying start with full forward Naoise Hughes a danger anytime she was on the ball. The first fifteen minutes saw relentless pressure on the Tyrone defence with Molly Shortt’s goal bringing the Orchard county’s tally to 1-6 without reply. This in spite of some strong defence from goalkeeper Hollie Croucher and backs Aobh Bennett and Una McCrory.

Rhianne McLoughlin registered the Red Hands first score of the game and this spurred Tyrone
on to have a period of more sustained possession. Catherine Moohan scored a free before Armagh’s Hannah McEntee netted their goal. Tyrone scored four points without reply but Armagh finished the half strongly and were three goals to the good at half time.

After the break Tyrone had more chances, with the midfielders able to break through but Armagh’s defence remained solid. Claire McAleer was able to get a consolation point at the end but Armagh were worthy winners of the Shield this time round.
