Omagh CBS are through to the final of the Corn na nOg competition following a very convincing win over Our Lady’s Secondary School Castleblaney at Dunmoyle on Thursday afternoon on a score line of 2-18 to 1-6. The score line however does not do just do justice to much of the attacking play of the Monaghan lads who worked some wonderful positions but found the Omagh defence a hard nut to crack.

Omagh began well with early scores from Eoghan Donnelly and Peter Colton as the CBS settled to the task. With Charlie Meenan and Cathal Farley driving the Tyrone school forward at every opportunity they reached the short whistle 0-9 to 0-3 ahead with Meenan, Ciarnan Devine and Padraig Goodman among the points.

Centre forward Diarmuid Martin opened the scoring at the start of the second half but the Monaghan school with Ryan Walsh, Shane Byrne and James Ennis to the fore asked questions of the Omagh defence. In spite of some superb defensive work the Brothers lads did concede a goal when Alex Mc Ginnity fired to the net to ignite the OLSS challenge. However there was no sense of panic from the Tyrone school as Omagh bounced back with points from Farley and Martin before Peter Colton ended the game as a contest with a goal to put his team ten clear.

A James Ennis point with seven minutes remaining was the OLSS final score of the half as Omagh finished with a goal from Ciarnan Devine and a point apiece from Brandon Downey and Aidan Corry to leave the final score Omagh CBS 2-18, OLSS 1-6.

Next up for Omagh is the final where they will face their old adversaries  St Patrick’s Academy Dungannon in an all Tyrone decider.
