LCC Tyrone IFC Quarter Final
Eglish 2-15 Rock 1-9

If Tyrone Senior Football management were in Coalisland this afternoon they got a taste of what they must do plan without next year.  Conor McKenna finished the game with 1-9 following a masterful display of free taking and contribution from open play.  The goal was very fortuitous given that it came from a free kick close to the sideline which caught out the entire Rock defence and went all the way to the net.

Eglish opened the scoring in the 1st minute with a free from Conor McKenna but the Rock responded quickly and led 0-3 to 0-1 by the 9th minute.  Enda McWilliams, Conor McGarrity and Aidan McGarrity all landing scores from play.  Within four minutes Eglish were back on terms.  A superb Conor McKenna free off the deck from wide out on the left was followed up a point from play from the same player.  Both sides traded the next five points of the contest.  Eglish chalking up three and Rock scoring twice.  McKenna landed a 45, soccer styled another one over in the 17th minute and landed another free in the 24th minute.  The Rock points came from Liam Nugent.  Colm Byrne became the first Eglish man other than McKenna to land a point in the 27th minute before Rock took full control of the last four minutes of the opening period.

Aidan McGarrity ripped over his second point of the game in the 28th minute before he converted a brilliantly taken goal in the 29th minute to put Rock ahead.  The final score of the half came from a Liam Nugent free.  Half Time Score – Rock 1-7 Eglish 0-7.

Turning with the wind at their back Eglish made a blistering start to the second half.  Ethan Jordan opened the scoring in the 31st minute followed by a Matthew McGleenan point in the 34th.  Then came that Conor McKenna goal.  The free kick struck from the ground from close to the Eglish bench and going all the way to the net.  McKenna landed another two points from dead balls in the 37th and 38th minutes to ease Eglish four up.  Rock recorded their first score of the second half in the 45th minute.  Mark Ward splitting the posts with a nice point off the outside of the right point.  It would be their last score for some 16 minutes.

Eglish powered on with two points apiece from Seamus Muldoon and Luke Donnelly ahead of another point for Conor McKenna in the 55th minute.  Rock’s final score of the match came in the 61st minute.  Peter Loughran finding the target on this occasion,  The last score of the game came from Ethan Jordan.  He got control of the football outside the 45 and powered his way to the edge of the square before unleashing an unstoppable shot past the Rock goalkeeper to the net.
