On Saturday 14 May, Strabane Sigersons Chairman, Liam Sweeney hosted a graduation for the Dermot Earley Youth Leadership Initiative 2021.
Over 20 students were joined by friends and family for a well-earned celebratory meal, and they were presented with their NUI-accredited diplomas by special guest speaker Brian Dooher, who delivered a brilliant speech in the early stages of the programme which focused on personal values of self-reflection, hard work and resilience.
The graduates have since given their own expertly-researched presentations on, among other things, equal rights for women in sport, proper mental health provision for the elderly, natural resource management and renewables, and the positive role of youth sport and creative arts at the global and local level.
They also continue to make an immediate and significant impact on their communities, with projects ranging from the Green Club Programme and youth coaching at Sigersons to playing soccer on the international stage and apprenticeships at Premier League clubs.
