St.Josephs Donaghmore 3-12 St.Marys Belfast 0-8

The good run of results for Tyrone in Ulster Schools football continued at MUSA on Monday afternoon when St.Josephs Donaghmore advanced to the last four of the MacLarnon Cup with the minimum of fuss when overcoming St.Marys Belfast.

It was a game that they always had the upper hand in and were well in control by the break having gained an eight point lead. Full forward Mattie McNally bagged all three goals for the winners on the day against opponents who battled hard but only managed a single point from play over the course of the sixty odd minutes.

The winners hit the opening 1-4 of the contest with a Noah Grimes brace and points from Cormac Drayne and John McKenna coming either side of a well worked McNally goal in the 7th minute. St.Josephs had other goal opportunities as well but they tagged on points from Ronan Molloy, McKenna and Grimes to lead 1-8 to 0-3 at halftime, Cormac McGarry and Finn Shannon the St.Marys marksmen. The Belfast school were also down to fourteen men at this stage.

Shannon converted a free and a mark on the resumption but then Darragh Donaghy picked out McNally for their side’s second goal and they never looked back. Molloy added a couple of points with Eoghan O’Neill on target as well and while Shannon and McGarry responded for St.Marys it was comfortable for St.Josephs who now face St.Louis Ballymena in the last four.

St.Josephs Donaghmore scorers: M McNally 3-0, R Molloy 0-5 (1F), N Grimes 0-3 (2F), J McKenna 0-2, E O’Neill 0-1, C Drayne 0-1 (45)

St.Marys Belfast scorers: F Shannon 0-5 (3F, 1M), C McGarry 0-3 (3F)
