St Patrick’s College of Dungannon will be among the Tyrone representatives in the knockout stages of this season’s Markey Cup, writes Damien Donnelly.

St Pat’s reached last year’s final of the Ulster Bank U-18 vocational championship, coming close to victory against holders Castlewellan St Malachy’s.

The East Tyrone seat of learning was in the same section as St Malachy’s in recent qualification and top spot rests between the two teams with both already into the last eight.

Poor weather, however,  means that Markey Cup quarter-finals are likely to take place after the Christmas break rather than before as had been originally planned.

Tyrone representatives Cookstown Holy Trinity, Omagh Sacred Heart and Ballygawley St Ciaran’s, meantime, are bidding to book quarter tickets in a two from three contest in their section.

Tyrone’s Inter-County Ulster semi-final with Monaghan may well now get a January date too, given the snowy conditions and the fact that preparations have been badly disrupted for all camps.

Tyrone U-14 and U-16 finals have also been hit by our early ‘ White Christmas’ and refixtures will be confirmed in the near future.
