Superb Plunketts Win Replay

Pomeroy continue to be the success story in this season’s senior football championship after they produced a superb display to beat a fancied Clonoe side in their replay at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh on Tuesday evening.

Declan McClure and Jude Campbell traded early points before McClure and Patrick Doris put the O’Rahillys 0-3 to 0-1 in front. John Loughran and Frank Burns both split the posts for the Plunketts but either side of those scores McClure and Paul Coney registered for Clonoe to give them a 0-5 to 0-3 interval lead.

Two minutes into the second half Gavin Goodfellow got a Pomeroy goal and Campbell tagged on a point. Clonoe though fought back to level terms with points from McClure and Connor McAliskey. Burns edged Pomeroy back in front before substitute Aidan McKenna palmed in a goal for them in the 57th minute. Clonoe though refused to lie down with PJ Lavery blasting home a brilliant goal. Kevin Armstrong and Doris traded points as Pomeroy held on to win 2-10 to 1-11 and go on to meet Errigal Ciaran in this Sunday’s semi final in Carrickmore.
