A windswept Dunganny County Meath welcomed the Tyrone seniors in their final national Camogie League match. The result would determine whether or not they would make the league semi-finals.

The match began with a frenzy of scores with Tyrone’s Aisling Corr taking an excellent point against the strong breeze. Meath then levelled the score with a wind assisted free. Almost immediately they moved ahead with a goal from the resulting puck.

It was very clear from early on that the wind was playing a major part in the game. Maggie Hagan took a point following some superb play as Corr and Niamh Gavin were inch perfect with their passes. Gavin was in tremendous form in centre field while Emma McAliskey took another score from an Emma McShane burst for space.

Meath then turned the game on its head with two goals in a minute. With the wind becoming an increasing factor the Red hands struggled to get the ball out their half. Meath bagged a scrappy third goal to put them in a very strong position and it seemed the game was beginning to edge away from Tyrone.

The Red Hands refused to throw in the towel and McAliskey and Fitzgerald fashioned an excellent goal to calm the nerves before Fitzgerald put McNulty through to score another major to take all the pressure off.

With Ciara McGready growing in confidence and stature in defence the game was now swinging Tyrone’s way. Meath scored one final long range effort to leave the half time score Meath 4-3 Tyrone 2-3.

The second half started with another glut of scores but it was Tyrone who now had the wind in their backs. Shauna Jordan burst through the Meath defence to score a sublime goal and followed that up with another driving run and finish to the net. McNulty and Corr added points before Jordan again added another goal following another burst of pace.

It was now Meath’s turn to endure the suffocating affect of the strong wind and they increasingly found themselves pinned down in their own half. Corr added another two points with McAliskey and McNulty also converting chances. Tyrone made whole sale changes as Catherine Casey, Maebh McHugh, Siobahn Donnelly, Cathy Jordan and Laura Logue all came on to play their part.
McNulty added a goal and a point with Aisling Jordan and Gavin rounding off the scoring. Meath added a solitary point in the second half to end the game Meath 4-4 Tyrone 6-12

Tyrone will now play Limerick in the semi- final on April 20th.
