Tyrone  3-12

Monaghan 2-8

Moortown was the venue on Sunday as the Tyrone Senior Ladies made  it three wins from three starts following their seven point win over Monaghan. Tyrone were very impressive in the victory in spite of receiving three yellow cards during the course of the game.

Some solid defending added to some excellent link had Tyrone thirteen points clear with Emma Jane Gervin, Meabh Corrigan and Aoibhinn Mc Hugh all in good form. Tyrone led by thirteen points midway through the second half after Sasha Byrne turned in her second goal of the afternoon.

After a dominant opening half Tyrone led by nine points with goals from Chloe Mc Caffrey and Sasha Byrne. There had been little between the teams in the early exchanges as both sides struggled to cope with the wind.

Leanne Maguire and Emma Conroy swapped early points before Casey Treanor landed a Monaghan free. Tyrone’s response was immediate and after a couple of wayward efforts Aoibhinn Mc Hugh and Aoife Horisk combined for a Horisk point on the run.

Maria Canavan put her side in front with a converted free before she added another score. Then Mc Caffrey reacted quickest to a miskick from Orna Kelly and drilled home a goal on the quarter mark. The Monaghan response was almost immediate though as speed-merchant Sarah Tierney created and finished  a well taken goal for the Farney girls.

Once again Tyrone dug deep. After losing Canavan to a yellow card the Red Hands added a further three points from Mc Caffrey , Byrne and  Conroy while defensively Joanne Barrett, Jayne Lyons, Caitlin Campbell and late replacement Zoe Loughran were superb throughout.

Tyrone were back up to fifteen players following the return of Canavan. The Errigal star struck the crossbar from a free having just returned to the fray. The ball rebounded only as far as Byrne who palmed it home. Mc Caffrey hit a further point just before the break to send Tyrone in at the short whistle in a very strong position.

Mc Hugh got the scoreboard moving again with a fine point after three minutes. That score was followed by Monaghan’s first score in twenty minutes, a well taken point from their best player Maguire.

The Farney goalkeeper Orna Kelly turned away a Horisk goal chance before Campbell came through to add to the hosts tally on ten minutes. A third goal came from Byrne at the end of the third quarter, when Mc Caffrey lobbed in a free. The ball was spilled by Kelly and Byrne was on hand to steer the ball to the net.

Tyrone were eleven  points up when Zoe Loughran became Tyrone’s third yellow card of the game. Eabha Sherry and Leanne Maguire added points for the visitors. Maguire added a further point before Aoibhinn Daly fired over a Tyrone point on her debut from the bench a minute later.

Maguire converted a Monaghan penalty late in the game adding further consolation scores it was one of several poor calls from the Referee, given when Donnelly made a fine save to deny Tierney, the Tyrone keeper carded. Late points from Maguire were nothing more than consolation  scores before Mc Caffrey rounded off the scoring and sealed the win.
