Omagh CBS have their date with destiny in this year’s Mac Rory Cup quarter final when they face St Mary’s Magherafelt at Maghery tomorrow (Saturday). The “Convent” has been the surprise team in this year’s competition when they dumped out a highly fancied Maghera team in a South Derry derby just before Christmas. Under manager John Mc Elholm the St Mary’s lads have made great progress and are expected by many to give the Omagh lads a real run for their money.

Both teams played each other in the league section earlier in the competition in a game that saw a tremendous second half comeback by Magherafelt but Omagh managed to hold out for a narrow win in that one.

Omagh are the bookies favourites for this game and with Tyrone Minor All Ireland winners John Mc Cullagh, Ronan O’Neill and Cahir Mc Cullagh in their ranks they are expected to make it through to the last four. However Magherafelt are nobody’s fools and I would not rule out a possible shock result in this one.

The draw for the semi final pairings in this competition will take place in Maghery immediately after the Omagh CBS v Magherafelt game.
