For the first time ever the GAA will hold a co-ordinated series of ‘open nights’ in every county as part of the build up to our 2012 championships. These will take place at the same time on the same evening giving rise to a ‘big bang’ effect or commonality across the GAA’s entire county network.

The idea behind the initiative is to provide access to the main protagonists of our games, namely the players, for county supporters and especially younger members and families who are traditionally enthusiastic in availing of such opportunities when they arise.

These events are part of a wider plan to promote the 2012 Championships in the competitive setting that is summer 2012.

The Tyrone GAA Open evening will take place in Kelly’s Inn, Garvaghey this Friday 11th May between 7pm – 8.30pm. Parents are encouraged to bring along their children to meet the Senior players from the Football and Hurling teams. Senior football manager Mickey Harte who has recently agreed to stay on as manager until the end of the 2015 championship season will also be in attendance.

County chairman Ciaran McLaughlin is encouraging people to come along for this unique opportunity to meet the players and management. “We warmly welcome this new initiative from Croke Park. The fact that it is on the same night in every county helps us PR the opportunity much better and I look forward to seeing a big attendance on Friday night in Kelly’s Inn. Not only does it provide children and parents with an opportunity to get up close to the players but it also means that they can meet Mickey Harte. We are delighted that Mickey has accepted the offer to stay on as senior football manager for three more years. He brings an unparalleled understanding of the game to the table in terms of management knowhow. We believe that he is exactly the man we need to create a new team and bring further success to Tyrone”.

All the children and adults present will have an opportunity to get autographs and photographs and they will also be entered into a FREE draw for a Tyrone jersey signed by the players.
