Tyrone Miss Out On Leo Murphy Cup Final

Tyrone under 20s travelled to Down on Saturday for their last sectional game in the Leo Murphy Cup. Team manager Paul Devlin was hoping to see an improved and more cohesive performance from his team than the one produced last day out when they lost against Louth 1-7 to 0-7.

A lack of accuracy from free kicks against The Wee County proved costly but in Saturday’s clash with Down Ethan Jordan certainly had his shooting boots on. The Eglish ace hit converted five first half frees that helped Tyrone reach the break 1-6 to 0-6 behind. Neil Kilpatrick was Tyrone’s only other scorer in the first half.

Jordan and Tyrone began the second half well as once again his accuracy from frees proved decisive. Three in a row tied the game and another Jordan free had Tyrone one in front.  With the game entering the final quarter a close in free for Down was converted and although Tyrone created several chances to win the game it finished all square on a final score of Down 1-7, Tyrone 0-10.

That result ended Tyrone’s interest in the competition and Louth will now meet Mayo in the final next Saturday.
