Tyrone Representatives win Ulster GAA Handball Allstar awards…

Tyrone Handball has been enjoying a period of strong growth and development particularly at youth level in recent years.
This has been recognised with the nominations for the annual GAA Handball All-Stars event which is due to be held in Croke Park in early February.
The Ulster award winners were announced last weekend to go forward to the national event and Tyrone received provincial recognition in four categories.
In the Youth Male Player of the year category, Sean Kerr of Breacach has been nominated for the national prize after being selected as the Ulster winner.
Young Kerr is one of the most prodigious talents in the game and was honoured by his own county when he won a Teamtalkmag.com award in recognition of his talent and achievements in GAA Handball back in November 2012.
He picked up a trio of all Ireland titles in 40×20, 60×30 and one wall events. He was also captain of the Breacach feile team that won the Division One title for the second year running in 2012. At that particular event Sean displayed his individual talents further when he won the feile skills competition again for the second year running. During the course of the season he also won the 60×30 nationals title and many one wall tournaments.
In the team of the year section there is recognition for the Breacach feile team of Sean Kerr, Turlough Clarke, Matthew Mc Cartan and Tiernan Mc Crystal following their superb achievement when they won the feile Division One title for the second year running.

Tyrone Handball has not always been as strong and popular as it is now. There have been lean times over the years but during these periods there were always a few dedicated individuals who kept the flag flying.
This year there is an Ulster Hall of Fame award for one of these iconic figures, Mick Kerr of Breacach. Mick has devoted his life to Handball and has made a fantastic contribution to handball in Breacach and Tyrone over a span of 40 years as a player, coach and official. A well deserved award for Mick Kerr.
In a year when GAA Handball has seen many special achievements there is recognition in that section for Loughmacrory’s Aoife Kelly.
Aoife has sight in only one eye but it hasn’t prevented her from playing and competing at the highest level. This year Aoife has won 2 all Ireland doubles under 16 titles as well as two silver medals in the under-15 section at the world championships.

Congratulations to the Ulster All-Star award winners and good luck to all the nominees at the national All Star Bash, which will take place on February 9th and is certain to be a huge success for all involved.
