Well the dust has barely settled on the club championship in Tyrone and already we are turning our thoughts to the 2012 season. The proposed set of fixtures for next year’s National League has been released and it has thrown up several very interesting duels.
First up for Tyrone on Saturday 4th of February is a long trip to Kildare where they will lock horns with Kieran Mc Geeney’s men who will be keen to exact revenge following their heavy defeat in Dungannon earlier this year. Following that we will welcome Derry to Healy Park for another floodlit fixture on Saturday 11th of February which is then followed by a three week break before we make the run to Louth for our second away game on Sunday 4th of March. The following Saturday sees us take on Westmeath at home before we head off on our travels again this time to Galway on Sunday 18th of March.
Our final two games are both at home and see us taking on old rivals Meath (March 24th) and Monaghan (8th April). It is sometimes an advantage to finish with a home game particularly if you still have something to play for in the league but as we found to our cost two years ago when we faced Dublin needing to win, it does not always go according to plan. Of course this will be the first time in many years that Tyrone will be playing competitive football without Brian Dooher on the panel and they will also be missing the injured Sean Cavanagh who is continuing his rehabilitation from the shoulder injury he received while preparing for the Aussie Rules Series.
Full list of proposed league fixtures 2012:
Kildare v Tyrone Saturday 4th February
Tyrone v Derry Saturday 11th February
Louth v Tyrone Sunday 4th March
Tyrone v Westmeath Saturday 10th March
Galway v Tyrone Sunday 18th March
Tyrone v Meath Saturday 24th March
Tyrone v Monaghan Sunday 8th April.
