Tyrone U16C All Ireland Championship v Cavan

The first round of the All Ireland series saw Tyrone travel to Cavan. The teams had met recently in Ulster, with Tyrone coming out on top but with home advantage Cavan were quietly confident of a win.

With the second play of the game, Cavan’s Sarah Moloney scored from play but Tyrone settled quickly to the task and took control. Midfield duo, Clara Doherty and Cora Quinn dominated the midfield area and kept a steady supply of ball going into the forward line.

The Red Hands were able to keep the scores ticking over from play but Catherine Moohan was also able to convert five of Tyrone’s eight scores in the first half from frees.

Half time Tyrone 0-8 Cavan 0-1

In the second period goalkeeper Hollie Croucher and full back Aobh Bennett kept the defence well organised while half backs Una Mc Crory, Niamh McElduff and Neasa McElroy set up a good platform for many of the Tyrone attacks. While the game was much closer, Cavan’s Kate Mcseain taking both of Cavan’s remaining scores, Tyrone ran out deserving winners and will have a home venue against Wicklow next weekend.

Result: Tyrone 1-13 Cavan 1-2
