Tyrone schools are in the middle of busy vocational schedules as the build-up continues to key knock-out games this side of Christmas, writes Damien Donnelly.

Play-offs to sort out semi-final line-ups in both Tyrone U-16 and U-14 vocational football competitions are due following the mid-term holidays.

At U-16 level, Carrickmore’s Dean Maguirc and holders Holy Trinity from Cookstown are top of their groups and already in the semi-finals.

St Ciaran’s College of Ballygawley occupy second behind Dean, with Drumragh Integrated College in third spot.

In Holy Trinity’s group, St Joseph’s from Coalisland sit second with Omagh’s Sacred Heart placed third.

Sacred Heart now play St Ciaran’s and Drumragh meet St Joseph’s for places in those U-16 semis.

The U-14 competition is also gearing up for exciting county conclusions, with Holy Trinity and Dean Maguirc topping their sections and booking semi-final tickets as a result.

Sacred Heart meet Dungannon St Patrick’s and holders St Ciaran’s play St Joseph’s in games to decide who goes through to the last four.

Hurling is also on the vocational competition agenda for Tyrone schools and back on the football front Ulster Markey U-18 Cup qualification at regional level plus Tyrone’s Inter-County Cup campaign remain on the horizon too before Christmas.
