Tyrone Masters’ bid for a third All Ireland title in a row got off to a good start with an emphatic 2-14 to 1-4 victory in their opening encounter away to London on Saturday afternoon.

The holders have introduced a few new players into their squad this season including triple All Ireland winner and former footballer of the year Sean Cavanagh who bagged their second goal midway through the second half.

Tyrone led 1-7 to 0-2 at the interval with midfielder Donal McAnallen finding the net and Damien Kelly, Eoin Bradley and Niall Gormley all featuring among the points.

The visitors were always in control in the second half with Kelly, Martin Grimes, Cavanagh and centre half back Conor Gormley all raising white flags. It was a win achieved without key players like Stephen O’Neill and Marty McGrath and no doubt things will be a lot tougher in their next outing when they host neighbours Armagh, the Orchard County beginning their campaign on Saturday with a win as well when they got the better of Louth.
