ST Joseph’s Donaghmore followed up their narrow semi-final victory over Coláiste Feirste by seeing off the challenge of Loreto Cavan in the second half of the AB Trophie Final at Scotstown yesterday.

A goal from Annie Fox-McGlone midway through the second half put daylight between the sides for the first time and Loreto, who had been trading scores from the start with the Tyrone side, just could not bridge that gap despite the best efforts of Ella O’Keefe, Amie Keating and Doireann Brady.

O’Keefe and Ríona Deane found the net before Brady added a second for the Cavan school. However Annie Fox-McGlone was on target with a goal just before the break to tie the teams on 2-3 each.

The teams exchanged points on the re-start from Keating and Lucy Fitzpatrick for Loreto and Fox-McGlone for St Joseph’s. Indeed Fox-McGlone hit all Donaghmore’s second half scores to condemn the Cavan school to their third final defeat of the school year.

Best for St Joseph’s were top-scorer Annie Fox-McGlone, Charlotte Daly, Caisidhe O’Neill, Samara Holland and Megan Rankin in what was the Tyrone school’s first ever provincial camogie success.

St Joseph’s: A Fox-McGlone 2-6, R Deane 1-0, C O’Neill 0-1.

Loreto: D Brady 1-1, E O’Keefe 1-0, A Keating and L Fitzpatrick 0-2 each, C O’Reilly and S Smith 0-1 each.
