An Charraig Mhor 2-6

Aodh Ruadh 3-13

Aodh Ruadh Dungannon breezed into the quarter finals of the senior football championship on Tuesday night at Killeeshil as they saw off the challenge of an out of sorts Carrickmore side. The girls in green and gold could not match the power and quality of a slick East Tyrone outfit. Aodh Ruadh were buzzing from the off as they created a host of chances before reaching the break leading 2-5 to 0-3. Carrickmore struggled to create scoring chances and were reliant on the dead ball accuracy of Gemma Begley for their scores although Kathy McAleer and Meadhbh McCallan worked hard to get the ball into the danger zone.

Aoife McGahan and Niamh Hughes combined superbly throughout the half constantly opening up the Carmen defence with McGahan tagging on 2-2, Cora McNulty, and Laura Barker also with points. The St Colmcilles struggled to cope with their opponents and indeed the deficit could have more but for two excellent saves from Dearbhla McCallan. The keeper repeated the act several more times in the contest.

Dungannon pressed home their dominance after the restart. McNulty’s added a late third goal but the damage was done long before that as  McNulty, Hughes, and a brace from Emma Jane Gervin kept the scoreboard ticking over. Aodh Ruadh with county pair Gervin and Meabh Mallon impressive in the middle had opened up a 2-13 to 0-5 lead with eight minutes remaining. Carrickmore rallied towards the end as Gemma Begley and bustling full forward Marie Grogan both found the Dungannon net. However these scores only took the shine off a very impressive Aodh Ruadh display and came too late to make an impact on the final outcome.

Next up for Aodh Ruadh will be Sigersons and on the evidence of this fine display the Dungannon girls will fancy their chances on a semi-final spot.
