Ardboe 3-9 Cookstown 1-8
Ardboe eventually found the gears that they needed to see off a spirited Cookstown side in Moortown on Saturday morning. Perhaps it was down to the semi final bye but it was more likely that the lough shore side struggled to deal with a well set up and drilled Cookstown side in the opening half. Cookstown led at the interval by three points and had things gone their way the Fr Rock’s side might well have had at least double that advantage at the end of the opening period. That said Ardboe got to grips with the task in hand after the break and in the end they deserved the win.
Ardboe opened the scoring in the 3rd minute through a point from Darragh Muldoon but it wasn’t too long until the sides were level again as Flynn Neeson levelled the game with a fisted point from play. Cookstown took the lead in the 11th minute thanks to a point from Chris Ward and a minute later Eoin Long opened the Fr Rock’s advantage out to two points. Long was on target for Cookstown again in the 15th minute from a mark. Cookstown were on top throughout the field at this point and that dominance resulted in a 20th minute goal for the Fr Rock’s men. A long ball into the square from Karl Wawreynkieicz was turned to the Ardboe net by Jack McElhone. That Cookstown goal was their last score of the half. Ardboe had to respond in order to get some sort of foothold in the game and they did. Darragh Muldoon hit a free for Ardboe in the 21st minute followed by a Darragh Devlin point in the 27th minute and a Davin McKeown free in the 30th. Half time Score – Cookstown 1-4 Ardboe 0-4.
Cookstown got the opening score of the second half in the 34th minute thanks to a Daniel Ward point from play. Ardboe then got to grips with the game through Jamie Concannon at midfield. His free in the 35th minute was the beginning of a purple patch for the men in orange. An excellent Concannon run set up Davin McKeown for a goal in the 36th minute to level the game at 1-5 apiece. Within a minute Ardboe were three ahead. Another excellent run from Concannon resulted in a goal for Darragh Devlin who was now deployed further out the field. Cookstown did hit the next score through a Lorcan McMurray point to reduce the gap to two point however Ardboe would go on to record the next four points. Three points, two of those frees, from Davin McKeown surrounded a Darragh Devlin free in the 49th minute.
Cookstown hit their third point of the half in the 53rd minute but the game was over as a contest in the 56th minute as Dylan Devlin hit the Cookstown net for a third time. A 62nd minute point from Karl Wawreynkiewicz for Cookstown completed the scoring.
