Carrickmore And Donaghmore Lift U-16 Titles
Sunday 28.10.2018

Galbally hosted two very entertaining u-16 championship finals on Saturday which saw Carrickmore claim the Grade 1 title and Donaghmore lift the Grade 2 accolade.
Carrickmore bagged six goals on their way to a 6-7 to 1-14 win over Ardboe while the “Village” lads recovered from conceding two early second half goals to get the better of Moy on a 4-8 to 2-5 score line.
The Grade 2 final between Moy and Donaghmore was the first fixture of the double header and with two well drilled and well matched sides there was little between the teams in the first half. Jack O’Callaghan’s well worked nineteenth minute goal proved the key difference at the break as Donaghmore led 1-4 to 0-4 at half time.
Facing the elements after the restart Moy began the second half on fire with goals from Darragh Gildernew and Eoin Mc Geary, plus a point from Ryan Conroy, putting the sky blues four points clear.
Donaghmore struggled to create chances in the opening fifteen minutes of the second half before Ronan Cassidy’s goal gave them renewed hope. Two further goals from Cian Mc Kenna and Ronan Donnelly swung the game in their favour as they pulled away to claim the title.
In the Grade One Final Carrickmore got off to the perfect start against Ardboe as they built up a 3-3 to no score lead inside the opening nine minutes. James Donaghy, Daniel Fullerton and Lorcan Mc Garrity each hit the net in a quickfire opening period.
Fullerton bagged his second major after Eunan O’Neill converted two frees for Ardboe midway through the first half. The loughshore lads battled hard to get back into the game and further points from Sean O’Hare and Michael Forbes saw the teams go in at the break with Carrickmore leading 4-5 to 0-6.
Despite playing against the breeze in the second half Ardboe were much improved after the restart. The outstanding Eunan O’Neill bagged 1-3 in the opening minutes to give his team hope. However Carrickmore steadied the ship and goals from Fullerton and Daithi Mc Callan ensured that the title went to Carrickmore on a final score of 6-7 to 1-14.
As well as winning the Tyrone under 16 championship the Carmen lads can now look forward to representing Tyrone in the Paul Mc Girr Tournament where they will face Monaghan side Donaghmoyne in the quarter finals.
