Clogher produced a dominant second half display to see off the challenge of Drumragh and secure Intermediate football for 2023 on a score line of 1-17 to 2-7. Played at Beragh the Eire Ógs were the better side throughout but Drumragh showed at times that they are a side well capable of playing at a higher level.

Clogher played into the breeze in the first half and benefitting from more accurate finishing were soon 0-4 to no score ahead with points from Mark Bogue, Conor Shields, Marc Mc Connell and Ryan Mc Caughey. Drumragh began nervously and missed several straightforward chances which would have allowed them to get a foothold in the game. They eventually found their scoring touch when Benny Drumm got on the end of a fine move to finish to the net. Buoyed by that score they added a brace of Marty Taggart points to go in front before Marc Mc Connell for Clogher pointed to tie the game.

Drumragh looked sharp on the break and a brilliant pass from Lee Brown set Malachy Mc Manus up for his side’s second goal. Ryan Mc Caughey and Jamie Callaghan added to the Clogher tally but a fine score from Alex Mc Glinchey sent the sides off at the break with Drumragh leading 2-3 to 0-7.

Drumragh began the second half with two out of the first three scores through Kian Murphy and Malachy Mc Manus but a fine effort from Mark Mc Connell made sure Clogher remained in touch.

Corner back Mattie Callaghan was pushed into a more attacking position and his redeployment changed the course of the game. Inspired by the marauding Callaghan Clogher hit 1-5 without reply to turn the game on its head. Ryan Mc Caughey (1-1), Conor Shields (0-2), Michael Mc Caughey and Sean Bogue were on target for Clogher. Ronan Maguire pointed for Drumragh after a strong run but a Marc Mc Connell brace stretched the Clogher lead to six midway through the second half.

Both sides created further chances but Drumragh’s profligacy caught up with them in the end and Clogher finished deserving winners with a late brace of points from the outstanding Marc Mc Connell while Marty Taggart responded for Drumragh.

Scorers: Drumragh- Benny Drumm 1-0, Marty Taggart 0-3, Malachy Mc Manus 1-1, Ronan Maguire 0-1, Kian Murphy 0-1, Alex Mc Glinchey 0-1

Clogher- Mark Bogue 0-1, Conor Shields 0-3, Marc Mc Connell 0-7, Jamie Callaghan 0-1, Michael Mc Caughey 0-1, Ryan Mc Caughey 1-3, Sean Bogue 0-1
