Sacred Heart Omagh 5-10 St.Patrick’s & St.Brigid’s Claudy 1-1

Tyrone Schools football received another shot in the arm at Newtownstewart on Friday morning when Sacred Heart Omagh ensured their name on the Ulster schools roll of honour with a dominant display to lift the Irish News Shield at the expense of St.Patrick’s & St.Brigid’s Claudy.

The winners played some superb football in the process which was a credit to their management team of Owen Devine, Bradley Fox and Aodhan McConnell. Both sides missed chances early on as they both looked nervous but once Sacred Heart got into their stride they never looked back. Cead McGrath, Jake Donnelly and Shea O’Donnell all found the net in the first half with Daithi Teague, Sean McGlone and Donnelly among the points to leave them virtually out of sight at the break. Their Derry opponents managed only one score which was a AJ Scroggie goal.

Leading 3-7 to 1-0 at the short whistle it was only a matter of keeping their opponents at arms length in the second half and they managed to do that with the minimum of fuss. O’Donnell, McGlone and Donnelly all tagged on points while Donnelly and Daire McCaffrey both found the net as well as they won with plenty to spare, Shea Storey with Claudy’s only point of the contest.
