Carrickmore claimed the Siobhan Tipp O’Neill Memorial Cup after defeating a very determined and youthful Brocagh side at Pairc Eire Óg on Sunday afternoon 3-7 to 0-5.

The first half was a low scoring affair with quite a few wasted chances as both sides failed to convert many of the large number of scoring opportunities that they created. Denise Mc Cann opened the scoring for Eire Óg with a point after three minutes and with Norah Ward and Shannon Hurson working hard there was a steady supply of ball into the Eire Óg forward line.

Eire Óg captain Ward scored her team’s first goal after a period of dominance and added a point shortly after. Ursula Mc Kernan got herself on target with a brace of fine points as the home side continued to dominate the game. With half time approaching Brocagh finally opened their account with a converted forty five courtesy of the highly impressive Sally Mc Cann to leave the half time score 1-4 to 0-1 in Eire Óg’s favour.

The opening ten minutes of the second half saw Brocagh enjoy lots of possession and territorial advantage but the loughshore girls only managed to add two points. Grainne and Aoife Mc Donald along with Sally Mc Cann really took the game to Carrickmore but goalkeeper Deirdre Dobbs, Ashlee Hackett and Aoibhinn Daly managed to keep the scoring chances to the bare minimum. Leanne Mc Kernan and Michaela Mc Anespie pointed but Sally Mc Cann converted two forty fives to give her side hope.

Midway through the second half the referee issued a pair of red cards reducing both sides to fourteen aside and almost immediately Eire Óg bagged their second goal courtesy of  Mairead Donnelly. Caitriona Canavan pointed for Brocagh but a point from Ward and a third goal sealed the win in spite of a final Brocagh point from the stick of Grainne Mc Donald.
