Eskra Claim U14 Championship Title
Wednesday 26.06.2019

Eskra and Castlederg served up a high octane thriller of an under 14 championship final on Wednesday evening at Clanabogan with the Emmetts eventually seeing off the challenge of the north Tyrone side 3-12 to 2-10.
The winners had stars all over the field with Cormac Hughes, Rory Kinsella and Luke Kelly immense throughout. However special mention must be made of goalkeeper Aidan Hackett who made five or six top class saves at key times in the game.
Castlederg started well with a point from team captain Blaine Lynch and an Oran Mc Laughlin goal. Midfielder Darragh Devine handled huge amounts of possession in the opening half and landed several long range points for his team. Rory Kinsella brought Eskra back into the game with a fine goal six minutes before the break to leave a point in it. Then just before half time Cormac Hughes netted to put Eskra ahead at the short whistle.
The second half produced some top class football from both teams with fine scores, disciplined tackling and great defending. An early Derg goal from Blaine Lynch levelled the game but Eskra rallied and hit three points without reply from Hughes (1) and Kinsella (2). Devine landed a fine point for Castlederg before Eoin Mc Evoy scored to extend Eskra’s lead to three again.
With seven minutes remaining Cormac Hughes found the net for his team’s third goal to put the Emmetts six in front. Back came the Derg but Hackett in goals denied them with two superb stops. With time running out Darragh Devine pointed again but Cormac Hughes steadied the ship with a fine score to seal the win and lift the title.
