Gortin Hold Off Cookstown To Advance

Gortin went into this LCC Intermediate championship first round tie at Dunmoyle as favourites and they fully justified that tag with a 2-11 to 1-7 win over Cookstown. The winners led 1-5 to 0-2 at the break with Eoghan McGarvey their goal scorer and Sean Og McAleer, Ciaran Brolly and Patrick McCullagh among their points.
Danny McElhatton and Dean Teague swapped points with McAleer and Sean McKenna on the restart before a high ball in from McElhatton went all the way to the net and suddenly the gap was down to two. McCullagh left three between the sides but with time running out Cookstown almost levelled matters when a Conor Mullan shot thumped back of the crossbar. Gortin made good their escape with Shane Clarke palming to the net in the next attack before Ruairi Keenan concluded the scoring.
