Handball Returns to St Enda’s
Monday 12.09.2011

Handball will make a welcome return to Omagh St Endas next Monday evening. Coaching for underage players will begin at Omagh CBS sports hall at 7pm, with two sessions aimed at developing the basics in the one wall game that is proving so popular around the world. Under 12s session starts at 7 until 8pm with the older players catered for from 8 until 9pm.Players should bring £1 to cover hall hire.
Youth players who registered earlier this year and those who want to give Handball a go are invited to come along. There will be Tyrone handball coaches in attendance for the initial duration of six weeks.
St Endas Handball Club enjoyed success in the 40×20 game when the initial club formed at Healy Park in the mid eighties. In 1984 John Mc Cullagh claimed the Tyrone senior singles title and the club hosted the county Juvenile championship finals at Omagh Leisure Complex. Players from the club competed in the Tyrone GFC league, county championships and South Ulster league. It’s hoped that the new handball section will also produce players for championships later this year.
Players should come kitted out in club gear and trainers, no specialist gear or equipment is required. The one wall format of the sport has attracted a lot of interest and championships at all age levels are now organised throughout the county, province and country. The world championships are coming to Ireland next year with local venues in Tyrone set to host some competitions, so it’s an opportune time for the St Endas Handball Club to reform.
Further details will be on club facebook pages and website.
