Impressive Carrickmore Defeat Dromore In League Semi
All County League
A superb second half performance saw Carrickmore ease past Dromore in this year’s Division One league semi-final.
Both sides entered the game following contrasting championship exits. It was clear from the outset that both teams were intent on reaching this year’s league decider. Little separated them as they battled for ascendancy. The new Carrickmore management team had to be delighted with their team’s approach as they forced Dromore into errors and turnovers, but credit Dromore, who never shirked the challenge and both teams had plenty of positives as they headed to the changing rooms tied at 7 each.
Danny Fullerton kicked two points inside the opening ten minutes. However, scores from Oran Sludden, Tiernan Sludden and Peter Teague edged the home side in front by the mid point of the half. A super Sean Loughran point from the wing levelled the game and long range free kicks from Jack McCallan and Peter Teague left it 4 a piece. Experienced duo Martin Penrose and Ronan McNabb both registered a brace of points as a high-quality half was brought to a conclusion.
Playing with the wind in the second half, Carrickmore opened the scoring in a cagey third quarter before Oran Sludden kicked his second to level again.
A goal was always going to be a crucial score and it arrived with 14 minutes remaining, Martin Penrose showed huge composure to step inside his marker and give Mark McGale no chance.
Cormac Munroe was called upon to make a vital interception minutes later to prevent a certain Dromore goal. Carrickmore finished strongly aided by outstanding performances from Penrose, and Danny Fullerton took the game away from Dromore. The pair finished with 1-11 between them with the majority of it from play.
Dromore finished the game with fourteen players after Ronan McNabb was dismissed late on.
Carrickmore now await the winners from the Killyclogher and Trillick semi-final.
