Kevin Barrys Take Title After Replay

Derrylaughan lifted the U14 Grade 4 league title when they overcame a gallant Eskra side in their replay at Aghaloo on Saturday morning in what was another outstanding advertisement for underage football in Tyrone.

Eskra began brightly with the opening three points Rory Kinsella (2) and Finn Kelly but Adam Cushnahan levelled matters with his first goal of the game. Cushnahan and  Caoimhain Hughes swapped points with Kinsella before the latter sent a free straight to the net to put his side in front. Ryan Cushnahan replied with a brace for the Kevin Barrys but late efforts from Kelly and Eoghan McKenna enabled Eskra to lead 1-7 to 1-5 at halftime.

Derrylaughan made a lightning start to the second half to establish a lead that they were never to lose as they hit 2-2 without reply with Cushnahan and Barry McErlean getting their goals and Hughes scoring two points. Kinsella opened Eskra’s second half account before McErlean got his second goal of the game for the Loughshore lads. Eskra though kept battling away and a goal from Eoin McEvoy kept them in touch.

Matthew McKenna and Kinsella then closed the gap to four points but that was as good as it got for the young Emmetts. Andre Gervin got a 5th goal for the winners and that was quickly followed by another from Cushnahan to complete his hattrick and ensure the silverware went to Derrylaughan. Both these sides are due to meet in the championship final as well and if that game is half as good as the two league deciders then it will be well worth going along to see.
