It has often been said that goals win matches and that was very much the case on Wednesday evening at Beragh when Killeeshil and Fintona met in the Grade Three Minor Ladies League final. After an enthralling contest Killeeshil claimed the title on a scoreline of 7-5 to 4-11.

After a close and absorbing first twenty five minutes Fintona led 1-5 to 2-1. Both teams created chances of goals forcing saves from both goalkeepers. Zarah Fearon opened the scoring with a goal for Killeeshil but Fintona replied through the talented Aoife Mc Gillion. Fintona added three points but they were rocked by a second Killeeshil goal from the boot of Kyla Rose Mc Elvogue.

With half time rapidly approaching Killeeshil turned the game on its head when they hit two goals in the final minute of the first half courtesy of Aine Gormley and Cara Mc Coubrey. They then followed that up with another brace inside the opening two minutes of the second half from Gormley again and her midfield partner Cara Mc Rory.

Those goals put Killeeshil very much in control leading 6-2 to 1-5 but Fintona refused to accept they were beaten and hit 2-2 inside six minutes to get back in the game. A converted penalty from full forward Aoife Mc Gillion and team captain Grainne Cassidy plus two points from Mc Gillion gave them hope where there appeared none.

Once again Killeeshil responded with another goal and once more it came from midfielder Gormley who was outstanding for the winners.

With less than eight minutes left both teams hit three points apiece before Mc Gillion completed the scoring with a goal and a point to reduce the gap to four points but time ran out on them and Killeeshil saw out the remainder of the game to deservedly win.
