SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Errigal Ciaran 4-16

Moortown 1-7

Errigal had little difficulty ending Moortown’s unbeaten championship run at the weekend with Aoife Horisk and Maria Canavan top scoring in a one sided contest

Horisk hit an impressive 2-3, Canavan 1-5 in an overall quality display that saw them lead from start to finish.  Claire Canavan, Cliodhna McElroy and Aoife Horisk hit early points, Emma Murphy and Caoimhe McNally replied but  Errigal pulled away.

Horisk found the net twice in a three minute spell. Her second was a long range effort with Canavan and Horisk adding points. Elle Mc Namee took advantage of a slip to score a third Errigal goal while Eimile Loughran and Shannon Cunningham scores followed and  had them fifteen points up by the break.

Errigal powered on. Canavan goaled, Bronagh Mc Aleer, Cunningham and Canavan splitting the posts during a comfortable period for the winners. There was a late 1-1 from Emma Murphy but it was consolation stuff as Errigal eased through.

St Macartans 0-21

Sperrin Og 0-3

The Greencastle side deserve credit as this group of players did their best against County champions Macartan’s minus half a dozen players from last year. Meaghan Clarke and Orla Warnock were the pick for Sperrin Og at the weekend but could do little to halt this St Macs side. Sperrin Og have had a tough season and life did not get any easier on Saturday as they lost heavily in the championship.

Chloe Mc Caffrey fired over five points before going off while Donaghy and the talented Slaine Mc Carroll, Paula Donnelly, Michaela Woods and Shauna Mc Girr all added scores before the break,

Donaghy, Woods and Maguire opened the gap to fourteen on the restart and they kept the scoreboard turning with points from Marie Treanor, Maguire and Mc Girr in an excellent outing for them.
