Ladies Championship Wins For Sperrin Og And Glenelly
Friday 31.08.2012

The Greencastle ladies continued their fine run of form in Intermediate football with a convincing win over St Dympnas in Loughmacrory on Thursday evening.
An early Emma Clarke goal after two minutes and some superb defending put Sperrin Óg on top in the game and gave them a lead they would maintain to the end.
Dromore hit three points in the first 18 minutes but Sperrin Óg continued to find the target and points from Bronagh Warnock and Amy Mc Cuulagh followed by a Warnock goal put them in a commanding position.
HALF-TIME SCORE: Sperrin Óg 2-5 St Dympnas 0-3
Early second half points from Shauneen Ferrity and Amy McCullagh stretched the Sperrin Óg lead to 10 points but a series of yellow cards disrupted the game and allowed Dromore to claw their way back into the match.
Four unanswered points from Dromore set the nerves jangling for the Greencastle girls and it required some excellent defending and strong goalkeeping to prevent Dromore from taking the lead.
A Shauneen Ferrity free in the closing minutes settled Sperrin Óg and, in spite of conceding a late goal they held on to make it through to the Intermediate Championship final.
FULL-TIME SCORE: Sperrin Óg 2-8 St Dympnas 1-7
Meanwhile in the Senior B semi final Glenelly had a comfortable twelve point win over Cappagh. The winners were stronger and fitter throughout and by half time had opened up a 2-4 to 0-4 lead with goals from Aisling O’Kane and Grace Mc Cullagh making the difference. Siobhan Sheerin, Patricia Morris, Eilis Kearney, Edel O’Kane and Eva Hicks all got in on the scoring as they finished the game 2-13 to 0-7 winners.
