Ulster Club Ladies Intermediate Football Championship

St Enda’s 2-7

Mullahoran 1-9

What is it about Omagh St Enda’s and late goals? Last weekend the senior men snatched the Tyrone senior title with a last gasp goal while this afternoon it was the turn of the ladies. A goal from ladies midfielder Clodagh Mullan broke Mullahoran hearts and sealed Omagh’s place in the last four of the Ulster intermediate club championship with a remarkable 2-7 to 1-9 win at Healy Park.

Omagh were far from impressive as they failed to get into their rhythm today but still should have been out of sight by the break, hitting nine wides, two of those goal chances. Instead it was the strong Cavan champions spearheaded by Una Brady, Gearldine Sheridan and Aisling Sheridan who finished the half stronger with a super Aishling Sheridan goal cancelling out Hayley Ballard’s early effort.

Mullahoran led by two three minutes into the second half  but Omagh responded strongly to level things by the 45th minute thanks to points from McCrossan, McElduff and Collins. As the game wore on a bug that struck the Omagh camp this week was taking its toll. Charmaine Gormley was withdrawn unable to continue as Colleen McCullagh, Ballard and Ward also struggled to shake off the effects of illness.

The Cavan side proved their worth as they battled back and took a grip on this competitive quarter final edging ahead again with a Kate Smith free. Cara McCrossan pulled a point back for the home side but with minutes to go Laura Sheridan ‘s score left two between the sides and it looked to be enough. Omagh remained calm though and their patience was rewarded at the death, working the ball to within striking distance on several occasions a pass found Mullan who ran through to drill home the match winner.

There was still time for a couple of chances at both ends but Christiane Hunter, Ward and Nicola Donnelly closed things down snuffing out the Cavan threat as the Tyrone champions advanced.
