Moortown are Grade 3 U14 Championship winners for 2024 after they got the better of Naomh Brid in a gripping decider at Father Devlin Park in Donaghmore on Saturday afternoon.
It was a contest that was laced with quality football throughout with the St.Malachys emerging worthy winners over the Brocagh / Killyman select. It was Naomh Brid who made the better start to the game with points from Tim McVeigh (2), Harry McVeigh and Caolan McKee saw them lead 0-4 to 0-2 after eleven minutes. Gradually though Moortown began to come into the game and a great run of scores from Luke Ryan, Emmet Kelly, Thomas Kelly and Timmy Kelly saw them turn things around to lead 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval.
Conan Crozier increased that advantage on the restart before Naomh Brid got right back in the game with a goal from Enda McMullan. Three minutes later and Naomh Brid had their noses in front after McKee found the net. Moortown though lifted their game with GHOST PIZZA man of the match Thomas Kelly firing home a brilliant goal followed by points from Timmy Kelly and Thomas Kelly. A great ball from Thomas Kelly picked out Timmy Kelly for Moortown’s second goal and while Naomh Brid got their third major late on via Tim McVeigh it came too late in the day to save them.
