Murphy Gaelic Gloves Junior Football Championship Quarter Finals
Coalisland Fianna 9-14
Beragh Red Knights 2-10
Nicole Murphy hit 6-2 as Coalisland eased into the last four of the junior championship with a comfortable victory over Beragh at Dunmoyle. A youthful Red Knights side to their credit never gave up and tagged on a decent 2-10 with several good individual performances but even from early on there was never any doubt about the outcome.
The Fianna led 5-6 to 1-4 at the break as they bossed the contest from the start. Beragh keeper Nicola Boyle and the woodwork kept the East Tyrone side from being out of sight while a clinical Fianna full forward line, Laura Mc Nally, Caereann O’Neill and Murphy had the run of the park throughout.
Elizabeth Mc Garvey was on target for the Red Knights goal in the first half while Murphy had completed her hat trick before the break. O’Neill and Caoimhe Quinn also hit goals for the winners.
Throughout the second half Coalisland kept the scoreboard ticking over as they ran the bench. Caoimhe Rafferty finished with 1-2 after coming into the game and Murphy completed a second hat trick as they eased to the win, Mc Garvey hitting Beragh’s second goal.
A fine outing by Coalisland who have certainly signalled their championship intent. Rock their last four opponents.
Badoney 2-18
Galbally Pearses 0-5
A strong first half showing from Badoney punctuated by some excellent scores from Dearbhla Mc Donald and Kerrie Mc Garvey saw the Gortin based side safely through to the semi-final of the junior championship with the winners of Edendork and Moy next up. Galbally never got out of the blocks at Cookstown on a very disappointing night for them.
Badoney have impressed through the junior league and on the back now of two strong championship outings they are well placed to challenge for the Brenda Logue Cup.
Badoney led by eleven points at the break, Mc Garvey with the goal in a 1-10 haul.
Through the second half, Mc Donald, Finnola Gormley, Bronagh Mossey, Cheryl Brines, Neamh Mc Connell and talisman scorer Mc Garvey added a further 1-8 between them. Mc Garvey finished with 2-8 while Mc Donald bagged an impressive seven points.
Galbally scored three second half points but Badoney maintained their dominance throughout. They will certainly have tougher days ahead in this championship but will go into the semi-finals with real confidence.
