Pomeroy are back in the Connollys of Moy Intermediate championship final after their 1-10 to 0-11 victory over Derrylaughan at Pearse Park in Galbally on Saturday afternoon.

Despite playing against the wind the Plunketts dominated the opening quarter to establish a 0-5 to 0-1 advantage with midfielder Ronan Duffin converting a trio of frees as well as adding a point from play with GO Power man of the match Jude Campbell also on target. Shane Scullion had opened Derrylaughan’s account with a terrific effort from distance and further scores from Tomas Carney and Ciaran Gervin helped reduce the deficit to 0-6 to 0-4 at the break, Campbell and Carney exchanging late points.

The second half was only two minutes old when Campbell got in for a well taken goal to leave Pomeroy in the driving seat. Three frees from Carney as well as a point from play from substitute Ciaran Quinn saw the Kevin Barrys reduce the deficit to the minimum ten minutes into the second half. The Loughshore men couldn’t get level though as Ryan Loughran and Frank Burns added points. James Donnelly and Burns traded points before a Duffin free left four between them going into the last five minutes. Derrylaughan pushed hard with another brace of frees from Carney but Pomeroy held on to reach the decider.
