Superb Fight Back Sees Rock Advance

Junior championship specialists Rock produced a stunning comeback in Greencastle on Saturday evening to pip Clann Na Gael 1-13 to 1-10 and book their place in the last eight of the LCC sponsored competition.
Danny Ball was in superb form for Clann na Gael as he kicked all seven of their first half points while midfielder Aaron Devine crashed in a brilliant 18th minute goal as they established a 1-7 to 0-4 interval advantage, Liam Nugent with a trio of points for Rock with Enda Mallon their other marksman.
Ball and Cathal McGill exchanged points with Nugent on the restart before wind assisted Rock began their comeback. Nugent landed a mammoth free and in the 46th minute Rock were right back in the game when Diarmuid Carroll palmed a Nugent cross to the net.
Aidan Girvan closed the gap further before Nugent left it all square going into the final quarter. Girvan then kicked an inspirational score from the right wing with the outside of his boot before Cathal McWilliams nudged the winners two clear. Ball knocked over a “45” but Rock weren’t to be denied with wing half back Tommy Bloomer kicking a brilliant score before substitute Arthur Donaghy had the final say with a beauty from out on the left wing.
