A large crowd of Tyrone followers travelled across to Buncrana on Sunday evening to watch the under 16 sides from Donegal and Tyrone compete for the prestigious Buncrana Cup.

In the end Donegal claimed the title for the first time in five years following a 1-13 to 1-12 over a disappointing Red Hand outfit.

The Tir Chonaill lads began well and raced into a four point lead following a brace of scores each from Eric Carr and Luke Doherty.

Tyrone took a while to get off the mark and missed several very kickable frees before two Mark Devlin points and a Shea Browne free left a point between the teams midway through the half.

The game remained tight for the rest of the first period until Eoin De Burca fired to the net for Donegal just before the break. That score proved crucial to the outcome of the game as both sides swapped scores throughout the second period but Tyrone just could not manage to close the gap.

Daniel Fullerton and Ronan Mc Hugh helped keep Tyrone in the game but Donegal looked to have plenty in reserve as Eoin Dowling, Carlos O’Reilly, Luke Doherty and Eric Carr produced a masterclass in attacking football.

A late, late penalty conversion from Fullerton put something of a gloss on the final result but in truth Donegal were deserving winners.
